What is it?
This is a visualization of the US federal budget from the year 1984 though 2015 (projected). It provides the user with the ability to search for budget accounts by keyword and filter by year range. Budget data is rendered in a squarified treemap, organized by budget function, and sub-function. Individual account details are shown on hover.
This project is a submission for the Data Visualization Challenge. Its goal is to test the boundaries of modern browsers and their ability to manipulate large volumes of data without relying on incremental server-side assistance.
This app loads a rather large set of data (~2.5MB) into the browser. It is strongly recommended that you use one of the following browsers for adequate performance:
- Google Chrome 10
- Firefox 4
- Internet Explorer 9
These are also the browsers that were tested; performance on other browsers/version is unknown.
